Homework-19/12/24
1. How does the film poster for The Man with the Golden Gun communicate meaning with GENRE? [10]
The poster for The Man With The Golden Gun communicates meaning with Genre by having stereotypical looking woman on the front of the poster creating the meaning that the film would include stereotypical looking women in the film which would attract a male audience due to the male gaze theory. Having the golden gun pointing at jame bond with a golden bullet being put into it with the numbers 007 on it shows that during the film he would be the main character and someone would be wanting to essentially kill him for something throughout the film. The genre of the film communicates genre through the images in the poster like the car driving off of the bridge looking thing into water creates the idea that the film is an action film.
2. Explain how social context influences advertising. Refer to the This Girl Can advert to support your points. [5]
Social context influences advertising by having people who aren’t the best at what they do included in the poster like in the this girl can advert, they have a woman in the advert who isn’t the best at what she is doing but is still enjoying herself doing a sport, this hopefully encourages other people to start a sport and get active as it shows that when they first start they won’t be the best at the sport they chose but with time and practise they will get better. Rather than putting celebrities that are the best they can be at a sport on their adverts which could discourage people from starting a new sport as they would think that they wouldn’t ever be good enough like the celebrities , the this girl an advert encourages people to start a new sport even though they won’t be the best they can be right when they start as those things take time to be good at.
