No time to die is a James bond released in the uk on 30 September 2021, after a premiere at the royal Albert hall on 28 September 2021.
didn't happen for a long because of covid the film was produced by the British company EON productions and distributed in uk cinemas universal pictures. no time to die is available on amazon
the films budget was estimated around $250-301 million making it the most expensive bond film.
Main image: they have used the outline of James bond to put the pictures of the people and the picture of the car but they keep it in the outline of James bond. Mid shot suggests he's the main character. montage of the different props and characters. They have made him cover the logo slightly to show that he is 007.
Colour palette: the colour palette is dark blue and orange which are considered masculine colours. Orange links to action. Gold links to rich luxury confidence.
Typography: the font is sans serif 9 block capitals) which is normally a font that is considered masculine and the films main character is a male so that would make sense to have a sans serif font.
Mise-en-scene: guns are seen as masculine so it isn't very stereotypical for a woman to have a gun. Shows that women can also have a job being an agent or any job that involves violence not just men, proves that women aren't weak.
Genre: action
Release date: original release date was April 2 which is in the easter holidays so there would be more people going to see it because there was no school or work
Logo: the logo 007 looks like a gun because after the 7 there is a shape that makes the 7 look like its a gun. the colour ties in with the colour palette of the rest of the poster. Covered with a picture of James Bond and can be because the logo is well known by everyone so they don't need to see the whole thing.

Intertextuality
The montage design where separate images are laid over each other references previous Bond films providing a sense of familiarity nostalgia and pleasure to fans who recognise the link. The 007 gun logo acts as an intertextual link between No Time To Die and previous Bond fils. it has become synonymous with Bond.
It is significant that there is no intertextual reference to Ian Fleming (the author of the James Bond books) on this poster- this is a departure from previous Bond films, signifying No Time To Die is not based on one of his original books.
1) The locations shown are a bar, a city in the mountains. The connotations of the places are that they need to go to different locations in order for them to complete what they have to do.
2) The Propp's character roles that are shown are the villain ( the guy in the mask at the back of the montage and also the man in the montage that is the second biggest person in the main image), hero (James Bond the biggest one and the rest of the people are put in the outline of him), the princess (the girl on the bottom right doesn't have a gun which sets her up as more vulnerable as the other women because the rest of the women have guns in their hands)
3) The enigma codes. who is in the wrong? what will happen? why is the car on fire?
4) The clues that there are about the narrative contains that there is fighting involved and there are car chases involved at some point of the film.
Representations
James bond is an action hero who, since the 1960s, has been constructed to embody historical masculine stereotypes such as strength skill, independence
women has also historically been stereotypical: 'bond girls' who are the beautiful 'love interest' for Bond are often insignificant to the narrative and ultimately disposable.
The representation of gender in the bond franchise has evolved over time to an extent in a bid to reflect the changing social context. It would be useful to consider the poster fir the man with the golden gun.
Craig's Bond is not as sexist and overtly stereotypical as the earlier incarnations of the character and reflects some contemporary nations of masculinity as his Bond is older, more thoughtful and shows sign of vulnerability.
Hollywoods representation of race and ethnicity has shifted significantly over the decades. Mainstream audience expectations have changed because of numerous events and individuals.
Aston Martin has a long standing relationship with the James Bond franchise. In no time to die several different models appear, but on the poster, Bond can be seen in a DB5. This model was the first ever Aston Martin used in the films, when Sean Connery drove it in Goldfinger in 1964.
Madeleine Swann is pictured twice in the poster.
Stereotypes
James Bond is very masculine and dresses in a very stereotypical way for a male, some of the girls dress in a stereotypically female way but some of the girls dress in a very anti-stereotypical way and they also challenge stereotypes because some of the girls carry guns which is normally seen as a stereotypical masculine thing to do.
Representations of gender
males are represented as strong and willing to fight for what they want with how the men in the poster are dressed and holding guns or with the facial expressions they have. The females in the poster are represented as strong minded because of the way they are stood and the fact they are holding guns shows that they are willing to do something that would challenge stereotypes.

colours that link to action (dark blue, orange)

Representations of ethnicity
Ethnicity is represented as diverse because they use people of different ethnicity in the poster and in the film as they have used people who are black and people who speak a different language included in the film which shows that they have become diverse with the people they choose to act in the films and play different characters that would fit them well. However the majority of the cast are white except Nomi who is black which is stereotypical for Hollywood films and the James Bond franchise to have the cast as majority white.
Representations of age
Age has been represented as inclusive because they have used an actor who is older than they usually use which shows they are including people of different ages because they use people that look younger than others but also the actor they used for James Bond looks older than they others in the poster but also looks the oldest out of the people who have played him.
Representations of sexuality
Sexuality hasn't been represented very well because there was no obvious signs of any homosexuality in the poster.

based on book of the same name written by Ian Flemming
$7 million budget and grossed $97 million at the world wide box office
Martial arts films were very popular at the time and to reflect that there were several Kung Fu scenes and the film was filmed predominantly in Asia
illustrations were much more commonly used on film posters due too the limited technology that was available
the film was set in the middle of the 1973 energy crisis when the oil producing Arab nations proclaimed an oil embargo causing an oil crisis which had both short and long term effects across politics and the economy across the globe this is hinted at through the posters.
1) so they can see some of the different things that will happen in the film or so the audience know what to expect when they watch the film. Shows the genre and the locations in the film.
2) Bond holding the gun makes him look masculine and like he is ready to do what he has to do and him being only man on the poster that is visibly holding a gun makes him known as the main character in the film. His costume makes him look very professional and very sophisticated but also makes him look like he is ready for business. His facial expression makes him look very serious and that he takes his job very seriously and with him using direct address makes him look like he is staring at his enemy ready to do whatever he has to do to his job.
3) The golden gun looks as if it is really important and that it's what Bond wants or is aiming to get, but with the man's hand holding it and putting a bullet into the gun shows that it is his enemy is ready shoot Bond if needs be, and with the bullet saying '007' on it shows that the bullet is meant to be used on Bond or against Bond. Establishes the man with the golden gun is the villain of the film.
4)The text being in a sans serif font connotes that it is meant for men and makes the poster look modern but also doesn't draw too much attention away from the pictures. Also with the writing "Ian Flemming's Man With The Golden Gun" shows that people who like the books would like the film and also ' Roger Moore as James Bond' shows that people who like Roger Moore would like the film as well.
5) who is the man with the golden gun? why are they targeting James Bond?
6) Propp's character types that are seen are the hero (James Bond), villian( the man with the golden gun), princess( Bond girls)
7) the guns and explosions show that it is action and the different locations show the adventure side of the film.
Exam style question
Images- the image of James bond holding the gun in the middle of the poster makes it known that he is the main character of the films and that the audience will see a lot of him in the film so they should pay attention to what he does in the film. Having him use direct address with looking into the camera shows that he takes his job very seriously and is a very serious person and that he is ready to do the job he has to do, also with him using direct address makes him look like he is trying to get your attention through the poster so people would look at the poster and take an interest in the poster and go watch the film. Having him holding the gun up and by his face makes it very visible as if they want the audience to see that he is experienced with the weapons he uses and that he can use the weapons when he needs to, but also having the gun by his face draws your attention towards the gun as once you have looked at his face the next thing you are drawn to is the gun in his hands. Having him holding the gun shows that he is masculine and stereotypically acts like how they thought a male should when the film was made and that he isn't scared to fight if he has to or use his weapon against his enemies.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Homework-12/03/24
images-
The image with James bond stood in the middle of the poster taking up most of the room and then using the outline of his body to put the other images of the other characters and things from the film inside his body to show that he is the main character of the film because they have been put inside James Bond. Having the other characters in the out line of his body shows the diversity of the different characters in the film and gives the audience an idea of what actors are playing what characters in the film. Also having the orange down the bottom where the car is shows that it is an action film because the orange connotes fire and explosion which are often in action films.
mise-en-scene-
The way James is dressed shows that he is ready to do what he has to but also shows he is stereotypically masculine because he is wearing a suit and that is usually seen as something a man would normally wear to a well paying job which may show to the audience that the job he does gets him lots of money which is why he can afford all the expensive looking things he has. Also having the rest of the characters dressed in similar clothes shows that they are also in a position where they get paid a lot for what they do but also no as much as Bond does.
Layout and design-
The way the '007' is put behind Bond shows that the James Bond franchise is well known enough to people they dont have to see the whole name to know what it is. Having the writing behind Bond also sort of shows who he is or who he was before or during the film and people who are fans of the films would know who he is and why '007' is put behind him.

A black suit- professional, expensive, private, timeless/classic.
The colour gold- expensive, special, wanted, high quality, wealth, high status, luxury
A power plant- dangerous, radioactivity, energy.
At the start of the 20th century many film depictions of minority ethnic groups supported the dominant stereotypes of the time: to be pited, to be laughed at, the exotic and/or dangerous. While society was progressing towards racial equality by the 1970s, some of these stereotypes were still in evidence in mainstream films.
In addition, it is interesting to consider this poster in the context of the move towards gender equality and increased women's rights in the 1960s and 70s.
Stereotypes-
The stereotypes in the poster are that spies usually dress in smart outfits looking like they are ready for their job, the film follows these stereotypes as Bond is dressed in a suit and tie looking like he is very professional and ready for his job. Woman are on the poster are there to look attractive and only there for show.
Representations of gender-
Men have been shown as the stronger gender and that they are the ones that have the harder jobs to do and that they are more important with the more immportant jobs. Woman are shown to bd there for males and that is the only reason they are there is for men to look at them and for their pleasure. This is like the male gaze theory which is where females are sexually objectified and this is shown in the poster where the women are in the bikinis.
Representations of ethnicity-
There is mainly people who are white in the poster with a minority of people who are a different ethnicity but there are a small group of men in the middle of the poster who look to be a different race to the rest of the people on the poster.

production- making something
Distribution- spreading something
Marketing- showing something off/ selling it
Exhibition- showing it
Big film companies (conglomerates) will complete all three processes for a film. This is known as vertical integration.
This is a god thing for companies that can do it because they can get more profit from producing distributing and marketing films as some of the money goes back to them as they have the resources they need there so don't have to pay any other companies to do that for them.
Production
Development stage- this is when the ideas are created, if necessary, the rights are bough, the screenplay is written and the financing is sought from producers, partner studios and ( for big budget productions) product placement relationships
Pre-production- create a vision of the film, a plan for production and secure all the resources (humans space and equipment) finding sets, finding locations, finding costumes and creating a production schedule, create a budget, cast actors and hire crew
Productions- making the film. ( actual shooting and recording happens with cameras, actors and location licensees )
Post production- making final touches to the film, involves various post production techniques including editing, colour grading, visual effects to turn your raw footage into a film ( cut and edit video footage, adjust colour grades and mix audio, add visual effects animation and simulated objects).
What do producers do?
makes sure film has budget that is required, oversees film making process, essential in making sure the film gets made, secure the rights to screenplay, manage crew cast and directors, manage the locations equipment and schedules, manage any problems that occur.

production-making the film
distribution-spreading the film to different places
marketing-advertising the film
exhibition-showing the film
Distribution is the process of making copies of the film for cinema, VOD( video on demand), DVD and SDV( streaming and digital video) release and marketing& promotion.
Sometimes producers will show their films at festivals in order to persuade distribution companies to take on their films.
Sometimes a conglomerate(large company that owns smaller companies in other areas of the industry) will delegate the distribution to a smaller company that they own. This is called vertical integration.
Distributers need to:
-work out and stick to budgets for both creating copies of the film and all the aspects of marketing
-consider release dates and theatrical windows( time the film is in the cinema) very carefully.
1-3) It is the first bond film to be distributed by Universal Pictures, which acquired the international distribution rights following the expiration of Sony Pictures' contract after the release of Spectre in 2015.
Universal also holds the worldwide rights for physical home media, United artists releasing holds the rights for north America as well as worldwide digital and television rights.

Marketing and promotion
Every institution, within every media industry, has one important task above all others. To make a profit. The more money you make (revenue), the more you can invest in other movies.
A film's success is largely judged upon how much money it makes at the box office.
Bond is an established franchise which has backers (financiers) lining up to either advertise a products within the film via product placement or finance part of the film.
Film are very expensive to make. For instance, the budget for 'NTTD' was£214 million
Hollywood and movie institutions are very cautious about spending too much on movies and roughly want two times what it cost to make the movie, back in profit.
celebrities are used as a weapon to get people to watch a film with a celebrity they know or like in it to increase their profit.
trailers were often used as well to tell the audience how good the movie will be and show them some of the stuff that would happen in the film.
marketing budget is often a quarter/ half of the production budget.
product placement- people pay to have their products so more people buy it.
different ways to advertise and market: poster, billboards, teaser videos, celebrities using their social media to advertise the film, merchandise, memorable tag lines, social media.
delays in the release date can effect marketing: the time of the release can be affected because they had to keep advertising the film to keep the hype up so they had to spend more to advertise the film while they wait for the film to be released.

Exhibition
Exhibition (circulation) is the process of exhibiting (showing) the film across a range of different media platforms.
Historically this used to only include cinema release, but as digital technology evolves so does the way in which we watch films.
Exhibition takes place in the following order:
-cinema release
-DVD release, pay per view (PPV)/ video on demand(VOD)- ( recently DVD and PPV/VOD have been release simultaneously as audiences are becoming more demanding and turning more to digital download)
-'Free to air' television( available on standard TV channels for free to the viewer)
in the last few years there has been a change in the way that audiences/ viewers consume (watch) film. The ride of Netflix, Amazon Prime and other streaming sites has made film more easily accessible to viewers. They can stream digital copies straight to their TV, laptops, tablets and phones( soon to include smart watches and Google glass). This is known as SDV ( streaming and digital video).

Film and video releases in Britain are amongst the most tightly regulated in the Western World.
Age restrictions are placed on all commercially released by the BBFC and some are even expected to make cuts or alter the film in some way to conform to the guidelines.
When classifying films the BBFC consider:
-context
-themes
-tone and impact
-depiction of discrimination
-depiction of drug use
-depiction of sex and nudity
-use of language
-depiction of threat and violence
-depiction of imitable behaviour

Uses & gratification theory
Uses and gratification is a theory (idea) from two men called Blumler & Katz that take audiences take an active role in using the media.
What people do with the media.
NOT what the media does with people
The theory states that an audience will use a media form for either one of four reasons:
Personal identity
Information
Entertainment
Social interaction
Personal Identity-soap operas/ reality tv shows.
Media products allows audiences to find role models and other people with similar values.
Use of media to reinforce personal values by coming closer to similar and desired people/ products.
Information-News.
Any information can be learned through different forms of media.
Media allows the audience to gain an insight into other peoples lives.
The media keeps the audience informed with current events.
People can acquire information, knowledge and understand through media products.
Entertainment- Netflix.
Use of media to escape the humdrum of their boring everyday lives.
To give a sense of happiness and release from the daily 'grind' (school, work, obligations).
Access media forms to forget about worries and troubles for a while (escapism).
Social Interaction-Snapchat.
Media products allows the audience to break down barriers of time/ distance to communicate with others.
The ability of media products to produce a topic of conversation between other people.
Media allows the audience to gain an insight into other peoples lives and circumstances.
Entertainment- Social media
Social media entertains people with showing people what they like through seeing what the person has engaged with on social media and showing them more things like the stuff they engaged in which would keep the person entertain for longer, for example Tik Tok as this is a social media app that is full of short videos people have made to entertain people with as the videos on there are long enough to keep people engaged but short enough to not make the person bored and keep them intrigued with what they are watching. -Band 5
The audience would be entertained because the genre of the film is action so there is a lot going on throughout the film that would keep the audience engaged with the film at all times as action films tend to have a lot of different things going on at once in them.
The film would promote social interaction because the film might cause people to have their own opinions about the film and talk with other people about their opinion causing debate about the film.
The film contributes to personal identity by including several different characters with different backgrounds and things so lots of people can relate to them.
The information that it would give is information about the spy world and how things work when your a spy and what it takes to be a spy.

Film posters-information entertainment social interaction

Sponsorship- information, social interaction
The website offers social interaction because people might want to talk to others about what is on the website, it also offers entertainment because you can access the trailer and posters of each character from the website and they are made to entertain people and inform them of some of the senes in the film.
The audience would find entertainment from the trailer when they switch between the senes and the screens where the writing says ' The wait is over' because of all the different parts of different senes they would see through out the trailer which they would find entertaining because if they are looking forward to the film they would enjoy seeing parts of the film before the film comes out so they are in suspense while waiting for the film, and they finally get a film they have been waiting ages for because of how many times the release of the film got delayed because of several different things happening stopping them from releasing the film. They would also find entertainment from the trailer because if they are a fan of the franchise they would enjoy seeing the trailer to the film they have been waiting so long for and that they can see what to expect from the film before they go and watch it in the cinemas.

Homework-07/05/24
Explain how films use technologies to reach audiences and promote the film. Refer to NTTD to support your points. [12]
The different ways films use technologies to reach audiences is by using trailers and posters as it catches the audiences attention to get cited about the film before the film comes out as people who follow the franchise of No Time To Die would’ve watched the trailers before the film came out because the release of the film kept getting delayed so to keep the audience excited about the film they had to keep release sing new and exciting trailers and posters to keep the audience engaged with the film.
They also use different brands in the film so the brands would advertise the film in their adverts for their products to keep people knowing what things they could expect in the film. For example range rover used things from the film to advertise not only the film but also their products.
Explain why users visit the NTTD/007 website. Refer to the Uses and Gratifications theory in your answer. [12]
The audience might visit the 007 website to find out information about the film like who the actors are and when the film is coming out and what order the films go i if someone wanted to watch all the films in the right order and also to get to know about the plot of the film.
They might also use it for entertainment like watching the trailers for the different films and the behind the scenes for some of the films and be able to watch some of the different parts of the films like different clips from some of the films.
